Smoothie for You?

Hello my lovelies!

I love to eat, I really really do but I like looking and feeling healthy and beautiful too.  One day while I was in the gym running on the treadmill, I caught Bethenny on her show talking about smoothies and how great they can be for your skin, hair and overall wellness.  I tried one of these tasty treats this week and thought I would share it with you!

How Do You Do EyeBrows: Wax, Tweeze or Thread?

Evening My Lovelies!

Your eyebrows frame your face so it’s very important to take good care of them.  I have tried all three methods and I prefer Threading with a touch of tweeze.  It’s a jungle out there so as always, I want you to be well informed and educated about your options so here we go.

Tweezing takes the longest but is very precise, as you are removing each little hair individually. Get a great pair of tweezers like Tweezerman and be careful not to over tweeze.

Waxing is my least favorite method of hair removal. Just like a bikini wax, it feels like a bit of self torture.  The problems with waxing can come with the wax being too hot, which can result in your skin being ripped off (OUCH) or severely red and irritated or even having a reaction to the wax, none of which sounds appealing at all to me. The waxing can leave your brows looking very defined and the regrowth may be softer.

Threading is last but not least and is my preferred method.  The threader uses a literal piece of thread and holding it in her mouth and hands lifts individual hairs from your face.  It looks very odd to the bystander and thankfully since you have your eyes closed you are not privy to the chicken dance that appears to be going on on your face.  A good threader follows up the threading with light tweezing. I won’t lie, it does sting a bit but there’s not threat of skin removal here. Just be sure to tell your threader you just want to clean up and not have them too thin.

The 411 of Brazilian Wax

Hello My Lovelies,

Happy New Year to you all!!  I wanted to chat with you today about Brazilian Waxes.  I’m a razor woman for sure, it’s simple, easy and mostly painless. I have no desire for anyone to know that much about my lady parts except for my doctor and my man friend.  There’s an obvious allure to have smooth sailing in lady town but Brazilians expose can you to potential bacterial issues.  Eeck!!!  Say what??? Yes my lovelies, having your hair ripped out may mercilessly cause small tears under the skin and leaves you vulnerable to the sexually transmitted disease Molluscum contagiosum, a skin virus causing raised bumps or growths. Ew. Gross.

I am not a fan of hair down there so that’s why I do shave but we have hair there for a reason girls, it’s a way of the body protecting itself from little nasty invaders. I always have to have both sides of the story so I sat down with my friend Karina who is the queen of Brazilians about what women (and men) need to know about hair removal.  Here’s here tips:

  • Make sure your waxer’s service area is clean and sanitary
  • No double dipping!
  • Make sure your waxer’s makes you feel comfortable and doesn’t hesitate when she is waxing
  • No Doggie Style! This position is so old school, there are plenty of other positions to make you feel comfortable without making you imitate your four legged friends
  • The waxer should utilize both hard and soft waxes during the procedure
  • If numbing spray is available use it!
  • The appointment should take less than 30 minutes, anymore get out of there!

You can check Ms. Gutierrez out at the Aveda Georgetown Salon and Spa at 1325 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007, 202-965-1325 and their website is http://www.avedageorgetown.com
