The Running of the Brides…and Grooms

One thing I love about Spring is the warm weather and the new growth on the trees, the new flowers as they begin to poke through the ground. The weather hasn’t quite lived up to our expectations this year, although we have had a few 70 degree days in January, Spring has been playing hide and seek with us!  However, the events that I have been looking forward to didn’t disappoint.  On March 24th I attended two of the biggest Bridal events of the year: A Chic Affair and Capital Bridal Affair. My sister is getting married in October so I was wearing both Maid of Honor hat and Blogger hat as we set off on the adventure.

Our day begins at 11am on a cold, brisk Sunday morning and A Chic Affair is our first stop.IMG_5767

Located in Georgetown, nestled in the C & O Canal, the backdrop is beautiful, but the cold put a little damper on it.

Your first stop was the bartender with his Ball and Chain mimosa that was quite delicious.

The building was nice set up inside with plenty of vendors to meet and greet.
For a little fun, there was a photo booth to take pictures with your sweetie.

Upstairs the groom to be’s could lounge with the other guys, have a beer and snack, watch the game and even get a shave while the ladies make their rounds among the pastries, gowns and caterers.

Around 1pm there was a panel discussion with included event planner Andre Wells.

Only issue was you had to go back outside and walk all the way up to Dean & DeLuca, which normally wouldn’t be a big deal except it was freezing outside. Overall it was a nice event and we hurried off to visit our next stop, The Mayflower.

These two events were very different.  A Chic Affair was very quaint and didn’t include every type of vendor, like  a jeweler, whereas Capital Bridal Affair had vendors you wouldn’t even think about!  The event was located in one of the ballrooms and really took it over!  As you walked into the event it was like being at a wedding convention, the placed was packed. We made our rounds, stopping to try all the food and chat with the vendors.

Elizabeth St John’s fashions were walking the runway as we arrived near the catwalk!

Whew what a day!  It was exciting and tiresome but so much fun!  If you are looking for an intimate show with a few vendors and want to take it easy, A Chic Affair is the way to go.  If you love the glitz and glamour, want many choices of vendors and fashion moves you, Capital Bridal Affair is your bag.  One tip, wear comfortable shoes and take it easy on the sweets, there is more of those than anything!

Did you attend either of these events?  If so let me know what you thought!
