I have loved makeup and style since I was 12 and I have been helping women and men get dressed for a long time now. But there was a time when I wasn’t so stylish. Just after I had my first daughter at 21 , I was floundering in my style and my happy! Jeez check the glasses and the hair, just terrible! While motherhood was such a blessing and I loved my baby girl, Katana, I was a little lost as to who I was anymore. I started on my style journey soon after.
I started working at a law firm and at 90 pounds was having a hard time finding anything that fit me that was even remotely stylish. Soon after Katana came my second daughter Kaela. I was off for another three months and I went back to work again. Eventually I ended up temping at Pepco where under the mentorship of my boss Barbara Williams, I found some inspiration. She was sooooo cool, the woman didn’t walk, she glided. And she shopped at Ann Taylor, which I in no way could afford at the time, but it gave me a baseline. I began buying pieces that I could afford and experimenting with my makeup and hair. My son Anthony, came along in 2000 to complete my little tribe. I dress him on a regular basis even though he complains non-stop. My girls have their own sense of style and I just monitor them a bit to make sure there’s nothing scandalous going on!!
In 2002, I started my style business with my business partner and I knew it was what I was meant to do. Over the years, I trained with different Image Consultants like Carla Mathis and Stacy London. I realized in looking at all these pictures how much my style evolved over the years and still continues to evolve everyday. I hope my style journey gives you a bit of inspiration, like it’s given to me! How has your style evolved over the years? Send me some pictures! Kara@KaraAllan.com
