An Italian Fashionista’s Diary – 30 Days in Milan – Day 21 Another Abbey, Pavia, and Karaoke

We are up early today to go see yet another church, I mean  Abbey.  They all look the same to me.  Anyways at least we get a bus to take us.  It’s about an hour or so ride so I go to the back of the bus and get comfortable. Once we arrive, There’s a monk who takes us around and tells us all about the way they live and what they do on a daily basis.  Each monk has his own quarters which are pretty spacious.  They live is solitude for six days of the week except Sunday when they all eat together and even then they don’t speak.  I am pretty sure God didn’t ask us to live like this, He wants us to Praise Him and fellowship with one another, not live in silence.  Just sayin.  Anyhoo, the monk was nice and his tour was interesting.

We then head into town for lunch and a tour.  The food was great, the staff loved us and the place was really nice.  Afterwards the Family Formaggio heads out together to do a little exploring.  There’s a market that’s closing up and I manage to find a pair of cute shoes and a dress for under 20 Euro.

Afterwards we head out for a walking tour of Pavia, which is a pretty small town.  This has been a long day so by the time we get back all I want to do is sleep.  We have yet one more activity.  Karaoke.  In Italian?  This outta be good.  The bar is down in the Naviglia canal area.  The karaoke man is not very receptive to us Americans and so the  night was really short lived for me.  I wanted to get back to the dorm on the subway so I left early and went home..

  1. I love your Italy blog Kara, keep em coming. So if the monks can’t talk, was the tour done only using hand gestures and brochures???
