An Italian Fashionista’s Diary – 30 Days in Milan – Day 14 and 15 Pop Politics, the Castle and Old Fashioned part 2

Today we had a lecture on Pop Politics. Pop Politics infuses Politics and Pop Culture and the result is a lot like Hollywood in America: Loud, flashy and unnecessary.  The Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is a TV and media mogul worth 9 billion dollars.  How does that happen?  Anyhoo, he likes to talk about everything that he’s doing like when he had plastic surgery and had his fat made into a bar of soap.  Crazy right?  That’s the least of it.  I am not here to air his dirty laundry and give him more free press, which is what he wants so I will move on.  Ahem.

We went to officially visit the  Castello Sforzesco today after class.  It’s a very interesting place.  There is a fab museum that has tons of neat things on display.  You can read more about it http://www.milanocastello.it/ing/lungaRestaurato.html

In the evening we go to Old Fashioned again and it is a madhouse.  I don’t enjoy any place when it is too crowded and crazy and this was all that and more.  Italians like to party as much or more than we do!

An Italian Fashionista’s Diary – 30 Days in Milan – Day 13 Lake Maggiore

Today we are off on an excursion to one of the most beautiful places!  Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy.  We took a train ride to the docks and then a water taxi to Islo Bella that has a mansion with flowers and peacocks!  Peacocks represent resurrection and they are depicted in quite a few of the artwork we have viewed here.  It was like paradise!  On the top level on the castle you can view for miles around.  I found something I could marvel at!

An Italian Fashionista’s Diary – 30 Days in Milan – Day 11, Italian Media, and the Canal part 2

Back to class on Monday and we are learning about Italian Movies. Very interesting!  Later in the evening we head back to the canal for another Apertivo, which is like our happy hour, but you actually get real food to eat, not nuts and potato chips.

An Italian Fashionista’s Diary – 30 Days in Milan – Day 9 and 10 Going to Genoa, The Formaggio Family and the Suds Party

Day 9 begins with a train ride to Genoa as we head to Bagni Sole to the beach.  It’s like paradise island.

So Cat, Gary, Arielle, Lincoln and Myself make up the Formaggio Family.  We had dinner at this fabulous restaurant in Genoa and we ate so much we had to drag ourselves back to the hotel and sleep before we headed out to party.

After a little gelato at Pizza Cafeteria, we head over to one of the local clubs and after a little sweet talkin, we get in for free!  To our surprise there’s a suds machine and we get drenched!

The next morning before we head back we check out the Pirate ship that was used in the movie Pirati!  Pretty cool.

An Italian Fashionista’s Diary – 30 Days in Milan – Day 7 and 8: Journalism, Massimo and Searching for Mexican food in Milan

Today we have a lecture on journalism and television.  Our instructor for the television section is Massimo….Nice eye candy.. Nobody was sleeping today.  After the lecture we headed out to find some Mexican food and thought that Mexicali would be the ticket.  Uh, not!  It was still good anyway.

I wander over to Duomo to the department store to buy some makeup and meet my Italian MAC family.  At dinner at our favorite Kabab place, we ran into Francesco!!Later we have another impromptu dorm party…

An Italian Fashionista’s Diary – 30 Days in Milan – Day 6: Economics, Zegna and Kwanza’s Birthday Celebration

Today we are learning about Italian Economics, Italian life and everything else that happens here.  The country is not in a good place financially, and the government is very sketchy.  Northern Italy tends to be more affluent than Southern Italy.  Italians are very laid back, no one is really in a hurry here.  Lunch is not usually less than 2 hours.  Work can be from 10am to 12pm or 1pm and then resumes around 3pm or 4pm in the evening ending around 6pm or 7pm.  I must say I like that!

Later in the afternoon, I had the privilege of visiting Ermenegildo Zegna’s showroom.  What a treat!!  I made a new Italian friend named Francesca Pedrazzi who was kind enough to show me around.  There are three lines: Ermenegildo Zegna, Zegna Sport, and Z Zegna
